Week in Review

So that was interesting. The new president definitely doesn't make things boring. The SPX (S&P 500) finished the week at 2381.73, down -0.38%, and the RUT (Russell 2000) finished the week at 1367.33, down -1.12%. When the indices zigged the portfolio zagged finishing the week up +0.34%.

The SPY Put Write and Delta Hedge strategy was a loser this week. It should have been a winner but I got impatient on Monday when the market moved up and the portfolio moved from positive delta to negative delta. I removed the naked call for a small loss. In hindsight, I should have left it on. Oh well. For the week, the strategy subtracted 3 bps from the portfolio.

The VIX Calendars returned to their traditional money losing ways this week. Oh, and did they protect me in any way from the big move down on Wednesday? Nope. The whole point of this strategy was to do just that. More research is required. For the week, the strategy subtracted 4 bps from the portfolio.

The SPX Broken Wing Butterflies strategy got taken out to the woodshed with the big market move down on Wednesday. But it recouped almost everything on Thursday and Friday. The strategy was quiet this week with nothing coming off and nothing new being put on. For the week, the strategy subtracted 3 bps from the portfolio.

The RUT Iron Condors strategy had a respectable week. I was able to close out the May 19 weirdor for a nice gain this week and added a Jun 30 and Jul 21 trade. For the week, the strategy added 18 bps to the portfolio.

The RUT Butterflies strategy was the big winner this week. I adjusted it when the market moved down on Wednesday and adjusted it again in the other direction at the end of Friday. If I just learned to follow my rules and keep my dirty little fingers off of that thing I would have been out of it by now. For the week, the strategy added 26 bps to the portfolio.
